KUALA LUMPUR (THE STAR) DEC 12 - MCA today launched a multi-million ringgit "No-Evils" Campaign at a party EGM held at Wisma MCA.

MCA President Datuk Seri Ling Liong Sik told party members that the campaign in a nutshell was "See No Evil, Hear No Evil and Speak No Evil." As part of this new drive, the Party will distribute free to all members a "No-Evils" kit consisting of a pair of ear plugs, a blindfold and a mouth gag.

Datuk Ling said that extraordinary times demand extraordinary measures. He told party members that their senses were daily confronted with various evils which, over a period of time, could induce them to beliefs or acts that threaten national security. The Chinese, he said, had to be extra vigilant.

For instance, criticisms against Prime Minister Mahathir and the government had reached fever pitch from the foreign news media and on the Internet. There have been street demonstrations with cries of "Reformasi" from trouble-makers. Opposition, NGOs and human rights groups, with the backing of foreign powers, were even daring to call
upon the PM to resign.

Datuk Ling said that the kit was compact and light enough to be carried around at all times. He urged party members to use the items to help them maintain their sense of balance and perspective.

For instance, if they were unable to get away quickly enough from the scene of an anti-government demonstration, they should put on the blindfold while waiting for traffic to clear. Rather than be insulted by anti-government criticism, they should plug their ears and, any time they felt like criticising the government themselves, they should immediately put on the mouth gag.

Datuk Ling also said that all MCA Members of Parliament had agreed to put on ear plugs whenever an Opposition MP was addressing Parliament. However, if the speaker was Lim Kit Siang, they would not only plug their ears, but blindfold and gag themselves as well.

The campaign is funded by MCA-linked businesses. Members can pick up the free kits from their nearest MCA branch office or by writing in to any MCA branch office.
